We stumbled onto “off the baa” and got it for Christmas. Our family is big Wallace & Gromit fans and we were not disappointed by this DVD. So we have been eagerly awaiting the second installment. We ordered serveral copies and another copy of the Wallace and Gromit collection. Amazon claimed 5 to 7 days shipping, actual shipping time 11 days according to tracking info. We would have gladly paid for shipping to get this in a reasonable amount of time. 11 days is way to long.

We first saw Shaun the Sheep on Disney and our son (one year old at the time) loved it so much we bought the DVD set from Amazon UK and a Region Free DVD player just so he could watch it. He’s almost 2 1/2 now and still loves it. He recently started watching Wallace and Gromit and loves the trio of shows and the were-rabbit movie, too!

If you like suspense, mystery, a good story, and for the most part, good acting, then this movie is a good choice. What I like about Copycat (besides Sigourney Weaver) is how it seems to come full circle. It feels complete to me. It starts at the beginning, doesn’t backtrack with flashbacks or start in the middle and leave you wondering what’s going on. You’re able to follow along and not get distracted by unnecessary gore (sure there is some, but not much). It’s a psychological thriller, and I like that much better than the slash and dash type of movies. It makes you think and allows you to try and figure out what the outcome will be.

Sure, you expect the star to live, but it’s not always a given. The ending kind of hints at a sequel but as far as I know, there isn’t one. If they can make one as good as the first, I think it would do well (at least those who enjoyed this one, might see the second). It’s rather interesting to see the Harry Connick Jr. play a serial killer. He’s pretty creepy.

I’ve seen a number of reviews that refer to this movie as a “Silence of the Lambs” rip-off. I disagree. “Copy Cat”, while similar in many aspects to “Silence of the Lambs”, manages to stand alone. The story line is nothing new…evil serial killer terrorizing young girls, cops teaming up with an expert to track him down before he selects and filets his next victim. You’ve seen it before, right? Well, maybe not.

“Copy Cat” is filled with twists and turns and exceptional acting. The overall mood is dark and foreboding. Helen Hudson (brilliantly played by Sigourney Weaver) is a psychiatrist and expert in the field of serial killers. However, she is not your run of the mill “hero”… in fact, she’s a mess. She can’t even leave her house since she was terrorized and almost made into Darryl Lee Cullum’s final victim. Cullum, now imprisoned, did quite a number on Hudson, turning her into a pill-popping, jittering, agoraphobic shell.

Ironically, the protege of Darryl Lee is what actually brings her back from the living dead, as she works with police to track down a copy-cat killer that re-enacts the most horrifying murders history has to offer. Helen Hunt and Dermont Mulroney play the cops working feverishly to catch the copy-cat before he can strike again. Hunt and Weaver play off of each other exceptionally well. Their animosity turns into grudging respect as they realize they need one another to survive this.

Yes, this film does have similarities with “Silence of the Lambs” but it also has characteristics that set it apart. This movie is filled with exceptional acting, a good story line, plot twists, realistic (if flawed) heroes and a dark, creepy atmosphere. If you did enjoy “Silence of the Lambs” try “Copy Cat”…same style, differnt movie.

this is not the movie you would interrogate it to be. yes the movie follows fragment 9 in their never ending quest to bust the abominable guys. the only predicament is that motoko(the main character in the series) is not the main character anymore. she is what made the whole series. without her as the lead the narrative is kind of bland and pushed to seem more than it is. but in all it is a helpful addition to my bulky collection of gits dvds. (i have both movies and both seasons) so if your like me and need to complete your collection then yes fetch it. if you are not then i suggest renting it from somewhere and originate your possess call on whether or not to win it.

As usual Innocence is a wonderfull second GITS movie. Honest needs to be done in English, with the regular english cast. This is a series that is shiny,and very complicated. IT’S NOT FOR KIDS. The graphics are wonderful. I got tired of trying to recognize the veil and follow the narrative with the text covering so powerful of the incredible graphics. This is some of the best Manga made. The characters compose you want to sustain following there adventures.

When “The Howling” appeared in theaters in 1981, it heralded a mini-revival of the werewolf movie that took advantage of advances in special effects; two films followed later that year: “Wolfen” and John Landis’s beloved “An American Werewolf in London.” Although “The Howling” doesn’t quite match the artistry and continual popularity of Landis’s film, it nonetheless has stale wonderfully and is collected one of the most exquisite apprehension films of its decade. It’s scary without getting too gory for the average viewer, has trustworthy special effects that don’t overwhelm the record, features a fun cast of familiar faces, and has a quirky sense of humor and loads of movie in-jokes for apprehension movie fans.

MGM first released “The Howling” in a no-frills DVD that let the movie down: no extras, a cheap and scratchy transfer, and a very tiresome mono soundtrack. Thankfully, they realized the popularity of the film and are now giving us a nice edition with revamped sound (5.1 Surround), a bewitching recount, and a substantial bowl elephantine o’ extras.

John Sayles’s script (co-written with Terence H. Winkless) unapologetically drops the classic werewolf chronicle into the modern-day — in this case, the world of television news and the fad of self-help psychology. News anchor Karen White (Dee Wallace-Stone), while on a special assignment to lure out a serial killer (Robert Picardo from “Star Trek: Voyager”) in the city, is attacked by something bestial. On the advice of psychiatrist Dr. Waggner (Patrick Macnee), Karen and her husband (Christopher Stone) head to Waggner’s clinical retreat in the woods. However, there’s something very disturbing about the other patients in the colony, and those unique wolf howls at night won’t halt…

The werewolf transformations supervised by Capture Bottin collected have an incredible achieve on viewers. Using air bladders, make-up, rubber, and pneumatics, Bottin was able to get a real-time transformation of a human into a nine-foot two-legged wolf. We examine limbs snap, snouts grow, claws sprout, the whole deal, and it’s damned fabulous. (Amazingly, only six months later Rick Baker would do this movie one better with the transformation in “An American Werewolf in London.”)

The cast goes a long diagram to making the film work away from the effects. Dee Wallace provides the serious angle to the film, and is convincingly fragile. The rest of the actors add a incredible loose humor: Slim Pickens, John Carradine, Belinda Balaski, and director Joe Dante’s popular actor, Dick Miller. The resplendent Elisabeth Brooks steals every scene she’s in as a femme fatale who burns with sensuality, mystery, and one peculiar leather fetishist outfit. Director Joe Dante, who would go on to jabber such wacky films as “Gremlins” and “Looney Tunes: Relieve in Action,” puts his nutty sense of humor all over the film and packs it with in-jokes. The names of many of the characters are directors of werewolf movies, werewolf films and cartoons pop up on the televisions, and “wolf” items are scattered all over the status (Wolf Chili, a book by Thomas Wolfe, a reference to Wolfman Jack, a copy of the book “Howl”…and so on) .

The extras, most of which are on the flip side of the disc, are superior. There’s a feature-length commentary by Joe Dante, Dee Wallace, Christopher Stone, and Robert Picardo. Dante has plenty to say and is a very tantalizing commentator, and this is a generally appetizing audio track. “Unleashing the Beast,” a fifty-minute documentary (divided into separate parts, but you can play them all together) goes into ample depth on the making of the film. It includes original interviews with Joe Dante, producer Mike Finnel, cinematographer John Hora, writer John Sayles, and actors Dee Wallace-Stone, Robert Picardo, Dick Miller, and Belinda Balaski. Conspicuously missing is effects wizard Prefer Bottin, but you can watch him on “Making a Monster Movie,” an eight-minute featurette that was made in 1981. It also contains vintage interviews with Joe Dante and Patrick Macnee. The extras also include two trailers, production photos, and deleted scenes and outtakes (some of which are very amusing) . Both movies are linked. Contemporaries, they represented a unique era. There’s no point discussing which one’s the better. “AWIL” is more current in a plan, having non-sense humor, bloody scenes and amazing effects. THE HOWLING, earlier, has a classical movie profile, surprising station and ending. Its characters were named after classical werewolf and apprehension movies directors, like George Waggner, Sam Newfield, R. William Neill, Erle Kenton, Lew Landers, Terry Fischer, Charlie Barton, Jerry Warren and Jack Molina. There are lots of ironies, like THE WOLF MAN quotations during the film and after credits, and the wolf cartoon in a tense scene. John Carradine, Roger Corman, John Sayles and Forrest J. Ackerman appear, giving additional charm. It’s the first time more complex werewolves characters emerge, like Eddie (Robert Picardo, the scariest werewolf on movie history) and Marsha (Elisabeth Brooks, 1951-1997) . Joe Dante made this classic with $1,6 million and obsolete his believe garage for the rated movies scene.

Lots of ideas were borrowed later (”the gift” in WOLF) . There were sequels non-related to the fresh, without the “THE” of the title. Most of them have nothing to do with each other. It’s depressing to someone expecting a exact sequel to perceive HOWLING II.

Comparing to THE HOWLING, Brandner’s book is different in many aspects, but both are recent. If you liked one, try the other, but don’t rep anxious finding total equivalence, some points of one aren’t in the other and vice-versa.

Unfortunately, the movie had no lucky on TV. Its first release on VHS had a blueish image. Later, a brighter version came, yellowish, but allowing explicit examine of the effects and a better mask fitting. I can’t drawl which one has the modern color or if none of them has. The MGM VHS release (August, 2000), after years of “out of print”, is a very reliable presentation - no cuts, Hi-Fi Stereo. The only possible complaints are a few optical ghosts during the title presentation and a sparkling but not unique hide. The light gets closer to the brighter version, with impressive color balancing. But I don’t know if it’s closer to the novel.

Lucky are those who watched it in the theater, with new color and no lateral reductions. We’ll have to hope for a DVD version in a letterbox format, with tone color and light fidelity to the cinema’s. A special edition, maybe director’s, would be wonderful: interviews, soundtrack, theatrical trailler/teasers and more. Otherwise, exact dismay movies enthusiasts are not having what they deserve.

Millennium Actress is one of the most touching Animes I have watched in a very long time. As another reviewer had hinted, this anime can be depressing. However, it is depressing in a very wonderful, Saving Private Ryan sort of device. I would not be surprised if some people actually shed a few tears while watching this, I was elegant stop to unbiased doing that.

When I first saw this DVD at the video rental store I figured it would be like Perfect Blue, the director’s previous Anime. It is engaging because on the Special Feature portion of the DVD, the creators of Millennium Actress actually said that they wanted to invent something like Perfect Blue. However the tale to Millennium Actress is completely different. The tale is calm focused on an actress but instead of suspense, this anime is one expansive adore record which takes you through different periods of Japanese film culture.

One thing which I really enjoyed about this anime is the mammoth creativity which is dilapidated to grunt the account. It is difficult to define in words but the main character Chiyako is seen jumping from movies to movies from different eras in order to near the residence. This device of legend telling is certainly the first I have seen in an Anime and is implemented very well.

Overall I strongly recommend this anime to most viewers. Unlike Perfect Blue there are no sex scenes and very dinky violence in this Anime which would interpret the PG rating. However, the subject matter and the complexity of the fable in this anime would be grand more appreciated by adults.

“Millennium Actress” does what every helpful animation should do. It takes a salubrious explore at the medium, and puts forth a yarn that utilizes the fresh strengths of animation, making a film that could not be live-action. This is a master at work.

Both knowing and emotional, the memoir is profound and touching, deep with sorrow and hope and unspoken, unrequited worship that lasts throughout the years of a lifetime. Drifting across Chioyoko’s lifetime as an actress, the fable fades in and out of her movies, blending seamlessly fantasy and reality, past, exhibit and future. The technique is unbelievable, as is the whisk through Japan’s history as Chioyoko makes various period films, becoming schoolgirl, peasant, Geisha, prostitute, Samurai princess and astronaut. Always she is seeking the man she knew as a child, and every role is a quest.

The quintessential flick for anarchists, furious guys, or cult film lovers. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt team up to originate an amazing film. It is not for the faint of heart, nor is it for the extremely sensitive.

The Narrator, Ed Norton, suffers from insomnia and finds his solution going to various succor groups until he meets Marla Singer, Helena Bonham Carter, who upsets the balance that The Narrator has achieved. Enter Tyler Durden, Brad Pitt, who solves The Narrator’s housing, sleeping, blooming remarkable all of his problems. Once realizing what he’s gotten himself into The Narrator has an inspiring hump of discovery which leads to the establishment of a novel life.

Fight Club is both entertainment and social commentary. When Pitt’s character Durden criticizes so many things taken for granted or plan of as necessities in fresh society one has to wonder how far off the notice he really is. The Spartan existence of Durden almost seems heavenly when he explains how frivolous materialism has made humanity.

If nothing else you will have an altered notion the food industry. And a positive wonder of what you really can effect.

All told this is a broad film, with a provocative if bizarre record. The cast is perfect in brining the dysfunction of the world to the forefront of your mind.

This film is both underrated and overrated. It’s underrated because I don’t consider major critics have always given this one a big recommendation, as it deserves such. I’ve discovered that, in most cases, if Brad Pitt is in a film then it is probably a genuine movie. This one is in many ways. However, I must also say that it is fully overrated in that those who really champion this film give it a lot more credit than it actually deserves, probably because of how “frigid” the fable goes with them.

There are quite a few fight scenes and they are genuinely authentic fighting scenes. As such, I don’t deem someone under 18 years of age should search for this movie.

The exact assure of the film, however, could not be more well developed. If you’ve seen 12 Monkeys then I must stammer you that some of the concept in this film is very similar to that one, and while I don’t deem this movie is as radiant as that, it is indeed a well designed concept altogether.

One thing is definite. If you have no belief what this film is about I can narrate you that figuring out what is actually going on is not very easy. A truly quiet movie watcher can probably figure it out and yet level-headed be fully entertained by it. If you pick up sunk into the movie, though, you will be well into it before you understand what’s happening, and the epiphany delivered is absolutely the tops. A edifying work of art.

Don’t be deceived by the title to this film. It’s a far deeper conception than it would appear on the surface, and it’s far more rewarding than most films could ever be.

It’s a five star film. Indulge In.

I’ll preserve this brief as I’m probably already “preaching to the choir” here. However, impartial on the off-chance that there are a few of you out there who have never known the wonder of “The Adventures of Superman” television series, may I impartial say this: there has never been–and at this rate, it appears that there never will be–a greater, more daring, more obedient, and more delicious “Superman” in the history of the character, than the interpretation given to us by the slow George Reeves.

And I’ll give you my reason why I have that with all my heart in a single word: balance. George Reeves didn’t play Kent/Superman as “bumbler moron”/”hero”. He played Kent/Superman as “Hero Type A”/”Hero Type B”.

There is a reliable bit of dialogue from the 1st (or was it the 2nd? ) season–a bit I’ll no-doubt mangle here–that really explains it all. A diminutive group of mobsters are discussing the difficulties of life in Metropolis. Of course they mention Superman. But then, one of them utters the magic lines that go something like this: “Forget Superman. It’s that Kent guy at THE DAILY PLANET I grief about. There’s times that Kent and his typewriter anxiety me more than Superman.”

That simple speech seared itself into my puny eight-year-old mind and heart for all time. Imagine that! The abominable guys feared Kent almost as mighty as they feared Superman! What a unbelievable life-lesson to dispute a boy: for all his fantastic powers, the thugs were almost more timid of the “normal guy who wasn’t stupefied to stand up for what’s good” than they were of “…the incredible being from the planet Krypton, with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men.”

And it was George Reeves and his doughty portrayal of Kent/Superman who made you beget that could be so.

Maybe that’s why this cripple grew up to be a writer. And every time I took on a bully–on the playground or in the corporate world–somewhere in the wait on of my mind I was thinking, “Do the true thing, buddy. Mister Kent might be watching.”

Yes, I peek all the various yarn and production short-comings of “The Adventures of Superman”. But Reeves, in refusing to play Kent as a cartoon unich, gave the character of Kent/Superman a vitality that has yet to be equaled–CGI or no CGI.

And if that’s not enough to convince you, the jaded and cynical, to invest in these DVDs, let me fragment with you one, last, sterling memory: the first word my baby son ever uttered was, “GO!”. It was shouted with all the passion, glee, idea, and intensity a runt heart could muster. And it was shouted as my son watched a shadowy & white George Reeves obtain his well-known running spring-board leap over the observatory fence in the classic climax of the episode, “Scare in the Sky”. And, in that instant, I knew what my baby boy knew–what all of us lucky enough to explore the magic and wonder of “The Adventures of Superman” at a tender age knew: George Reeves WAS Superman.

And he always will be.

Completing the collection of “The Adventures of Superman”, the series’ final two seasons offers a mixed bag, for viewers; while some episodes are laughably abominable (offering up green-haired, midget Martians, a mind-reading mule, and Professor Pepperwinkle’s latest goofy inventions), some are, in fact, surprisingly generous (tales of the search for a Civil War-era coat, a missing circus elephant, and a barber who reforms his childhood friend, now a gangster, are all very sweet, and quite toothsome), and one of the last episodes filmed, “The Perils of Superman”, directed by George Reeves, himself, is a bonafide ‘classic’, with unsettling images of helmeted criminals walking the streets of Metropolis, and Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and Perry, each subjected to restful movie cliffhanger demises. Best of all, these last episodes expose that Reeves, though far heavier and grayer by the series’ destroy, never lost the sincerity or humor he had displayed in earlier seasons…Playing the Man of Steel may have been the “Kiss of Death” for his career, and, possibly, his life, but he never gave anything less than his best, and it shows!

There are moments worth savoring, in viewing the episodes; for Lois at her sexiest, gather “The Tomb of Zaharan”, where the Daily Planet business suit is replaced by a tight-fitting ‘Egyptian’ costume and dismal wig (Noel Neill is surprisingly voluptuous, and HOT!) …in fact, the entire sixth season offers Lois with gleaming ORANGE hair, which she actually makes view Ample…”Money to Burn” is a throwback to the early seasons, with a bogus ‘Fireman’s Friend’ mobile diner, and one of John Hamilton’s best performances as Perry White; “Whatever Goes Up” is ‘classic’ Jack Larsen, as Jimmy Olsen ‘invents’ an anti-gravity formula; and for sheer 50s pop culture shtick, accumulate “Superman’s Wife”, where a stereotypical, bleached-blonde policewoman ‘plays’ the Man of Steel’s bride to serve nab a gang!

Also included in the collection is a made-for-dvd celebration of Jack Larson, offering original interviews with everyone’s accepted ‘Jimmy Olsen’, Noel Neill, and a variety of the series’ historians. While not ‘in-depth’, it is mountainous fun!

The only ‘negative’ to the collection is the inconsistent describe quality, with the color density frequently changing; the new prints certainly could consume some remastering.

While “Adventures of Superman - The Complete Fifth and Sixth Seasons” may lack the luster of the earlier seasons, fans of the note, and George Reeves, won’t be disappointed…and if you aren’t a fan, give the collection a chance, as you may become one!

If you are as substantial a fan of Darian Caine as I am, this is the movie you have to beget. Obsolete Penthouse Pet (hey, I read it on the movie summary) Tammy Parks may acquire top billing, but The Erotic Ghost is all about the amazing Miss Caine, who delivers her hottest performance ever. With the succor of Jade Duboir, a blindfold, and a, um, let’s call it a foreign object, Darian absolutely sizzles. As if this isn’t enough (and it is), there’s even a decent fable built around the sex scenes. Darian plays Doris, a bored, frustrated (in more ways than one) housewife with a whining loser of a husband named Robert. All of a sudden, she begins seeing a ghost (Tammy Parks), who does indeed turn out to be of the erotic variety. Throw in a couple of female devils, and Doris’ dull days are a thing of the past. As an added bonus, although it might not seem so at first as it takes away from Darian’s shroud time, we fetch a finish glimpse at Doris’ husband’s job. While we derive some typical John Bacchus screwball characters in the acquire of a mailboy wearing a perpetual face conceal, a baseball fanatic sporting greasepaint under his eyes and a baseball bat in his hands at all times, and Kimbo the syphilitic stricken balloon sales gorilla, the comically dysfunctional nature of the office experience actually resonates in a really unfamiliar yet radiant silly design. At its core, The Erotic Ghost is impartial another laughable, low-budget erotic movie with no redemptive value whatsoever, but it certain is a lot of fun to sight.

Darrien Caine is a hottie! Of that there can be no doubt! But that’s about it.

This is the second attempt to construct a movie out of a Terry Pratchett current and it succeeds rather well. In this case, the movie is based on the first two novels in the ‘Discworld’ series, ‘The Colour of Magic’ and ‘The Light Fantastic’.

Rincewind (David Jason), an inept wizard, is expelled from Unseen University. On a dare, he snuck a peep at the Octavo, the book outmoded to accomplish the world, and one of the eight broad spells lodged in his head.

At the same time, Twoflower (Sean Astin) arrives in Ankh-Morpork to “spy at it”. He’s the Discworld’s first tourist and he travels with the Luggage, a box made of sapient pearwood that moves about on hundreds of dinky legs and will follow it’s owner everywhere.

After conning Twoflower, Rincewind is dragged to the Patrician’s palace and ordered by Lord Vetinari (Jeremy Irons) to guide Twoflower safely through the city.

Twoflower, introducing the idea of fire insurance to Ankh-Morpork, inadvertently causes the entire city to burn down and he and Rincewind elope and Rincewind is plunged into several life threatening situations which he survives by sheer luck.

The righteous parts of this movie are Jeremy Irons as the Patrician and Tim Curry as Ymper Trymon, second in sigh of one of the eight orders of wizardry at the university. Both play their roles with like and Curry’s performance is as reliable, if not better, than that of Cardinal Richelieu in ‘The 3 Musketeers’.

The dreadful parts? Well, a lot of the worthy scenes in both novels are left out. There is no travelling shop, no Hrun the Barbarian, no flying rock and no Tethis the sea troll. There is also no gingerbread cottage or broomstick flying.

Also, they unfortunately chose a white actor to characterize Twoflower, when it’s made distinct in both ‘The Colour of Magic’ and ‘Interesting Times’ that Twoflower is Chinese. A precise shame, but Sean Astin does a extraordinary job at portraying Twoflower’s attitude of looking at the world through rose coloured glasses.

And they got Cohen the Barbarian’s (David Bradley) teeth unfriendly.

Although this movie takes a while to bag going, it does score funnier as it goes along and there are some sizable one-liners. “I am having a advance Rincewind experience.”

Christopher Lee reprises the thunder of Death, as he did in the provocative versions of ‘Soul Music’ and ‘Wyrd Sisters’ and he has some of the best parts in the movie.

Aside from the limited annoyances, the movie is quite obliging, the actors are pleasant, it’s got all the wittiness you’d inquire of from Pratchett, and I loved it.

A live-action Terry Pratchett movie is either doomed to fail in every plan, or succeed in practically everything.

And “The Colour of Magic,” adapted from the first two novels in Pratchett’s shiny Discworld series, is more the stale than the latter. This one is no “Hogather” — it has rather leisurely direction at times — but it preserves Pratchett’s wry satirical sense of humour. And of course, it’s all about a mercenary, cowardly failed wizard.

Rincewind (David Jason) is ejected from the Unseen University, on the very day that Twoflower (Sean Astin) arrives with his many-legged Luggage. He’s near to the Disc… to “study at it.” But after Rincewind tries to con Twoflower, the Patrician (Jeremy Irons) orders Rincewind to be the guide/bodyguard of the Disc’s first ever tourist.

After a massive fire sweeps through the city, the two slay up fleeing Ankh-Morpork and running into all sorts of unfamiliar things — a very assertive magic sword, a floating island burly of see-through dragons, a dramatic dragonlady in a leather bikini, astrozoologists trying to settle Sizable A’Tuin’s gender, the traditional Cohen the (retired) Barbarian, druids, and even getting thrown determined off the Disc in a curious spacecraft. And you notion YOU had problems.

Unfortunately the Unseen University is having troubles of its acquire — the magical book Octavo is acting irregular, and power-hungry Trymon (Tim Curry) is scheming against the Archchancellor. Even worse, a exclusive red star has appeared in the sky, and the world is facing destruction. The only thing that can keep it is the spell in Rincewind’s head.

Perhaps it’s because it’s based on the first, roughest Discworld books, but “Colour of Magic” is not quite as amusing or tightly-written as its predecessor, “Hogather.” The writing is not quite as complex or as witty, and the direction sometimes feels a bit slow (such as the bar fight scene, or Trymon skulking and schemind around the University) .

But despite these drawbacks, “Colour of Magic” is smooth a vastly titillating legend — it has a solid plotline and it chugs away nicely after a somewhat lazy beginning, and blossoms into full-out complexity about halfway through. Once it gets underway it starts to resemble a road-trip through fantasy-land, with our quirky tourist and wizard bungling their design across the Disc.

Along the design there’s some fun action (an upside-down duel), silly dialogue (”You weren’t born with a mysterious birthmark in the shape of a crown, were you? “), and a general air of tongue-in-cheekness. Best of all, it’s a fantasy spoof — Vadim Jean preserves Pratchett’s clever satire aimed at the staples of your average fantasy: fantasy babes, prophecies, magic swords, retired barbarians, grand artifacts, and even the thought of reality warping itself to place the “hero.”

Jason is wonderfully snivelly and sour as Rincewind, a failed wizard who basically finds himself repeatedly swept up into bizarre, deadly circumstances even though he didn’t want to be interested. Astin is even better as the hilariously oblivious Twoflower, who regards every inconvenience as yet another substantial adventure (”We’re going to race out of world!” “I have to sight that!”) .

And there’s a talented supporting cast — Curry chews the scenery with sneering aplomb, Karen David plays a humorously over-the-top dragon-lady, and Irons has a miniature but astonishing role as the cold, efficient Vetinari. And of course, the intellectual Christopher Lee takes over as an increasingly disappointed Death.

“Colour of Magic” isn’t as tightly directed as it could have been, but it peaceful manages to be clever and quite laughable.
